Tokyo 2020 Recap

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021), judo saw some remarkable performances. Japan dominated the medal table, securing 9 gold medals out of the 15 events. Some notable results included:

  • Shohei Ono (Japan) winning gold in the men's 73kg category
  • Clarisse Agbegnenou (France) taking gold in the women's 63kg category

New Rules and Changes

  • The match duration for men has been reduced to 4 minutes, now equal to women's matches.
  • Scoring two waza-ari is now equivalent to an ippon, immediately ending the match.
